Tool Design & Manufacturing

Building quality & precision into each tool...

Convert from Metal to Plastic part designs and reduce your project's cost!

Does your current supplier have the capability to do all of their tool & fixture building, maintenance, changes and repairs in-house? Polymer Conversion's ultra clean tool room houses all of the equipment we need to design, build, change and repair each of your tools. Every certified mold maker and tool room teammate is qualified to handle your technological needs, whether you require a first stage prototype or a multi-cavity production tool for a new product line.

For all new tools, revisions, and modifications, our experienced and dedicated engineering department will work with you through the design phase and into production. The first part of our process begins with an initial design review. During this review, critical specifications, ranges or dimensions that are essential for your specific application are identified. These parameters will be used to monitor, verify and document process control to ensure quality and precision for the lifetime of your product. After the design phase, our certified mold makers and tool room team utilize our high quality machining equipment, computer aided technologies, and advanced mold building capabilities to guarantee that we meet your product specifications and performance needs and provide you with technology you trust.

PCI’s certified mold makers and tool room teammates are qualified to handle and maintain even the most delicate of tools. Mold release sprays are banned from our facility because we are passionate about taking care of your long-term investments. After every production run, molds are cleaned thoroughly and examined to ensure tool quality and a long tool life. In-house mold storage racks house hundreds of active molds that are in "ready to run" condition at a moments notice.

Tooling Transfer Program

PCI has extensive experience and expertise to handle your tooling transfer needs.  In our first few years of operation, much of our production was run using "take-over molds". As a result, we began to develop a sound reputation for tool/product re-design, productivity, and quality - all of which resulted in significant increases in on-time deliveries and cost controls for our customers.  We added our own injection molding tooling capabilities in 1982, enhancing our no-risk, comprehensive Tooling Transfer Program to ensure the safe, smooth and documented transition of your most critical molds.

Let's be honest. Supplier relationships don't always last and some can end up being more of a burden than a trusted resource. For these reasons, we strive to continuously improve our tooling transfer capabilities so that we can assist you during the earliest phases of R&D, when tolerances, design, quality, engineering expertise and functionality are most critical.

In the first stage of our Tooling Transfer Program, experienced tool room teammates thoroughly assess each tool, cavity, slide, auxiliary supply, and other components that are received.  Our teammates provide detailed documentation of the mold condition and any required repairs.  We then suggest and quote any tool modifications or revisions necessary to get the molds back into a production ready status.  Once PCI receives a customer’s approval and purchase order to move forward, we perform the work quoted and thoroughly document the process with a completed checklist for takeover tooling.  After modification or revision, the molds go to the production floor for qualification and the customer is provided with sample parts for approval.  Customer satisfaction is our number one priority and production purchase orders do not get run unless the customer signs off and officially approves sample parts for our quality assurance team to use for in-process inspections.

To this day, our tooling transfer  program remains one of our strongest core competencies, with roughly 40 percent of the molds in-house sent to us by customers that were unhappy with their supplier(s).
